Series 14: Bearish Harami
HDFC Bank had been in a persistent uptrend, with buyers maintaining control and pushing prices higher. On a particular day, the stock formed a large bullish candle, opening at ₹1910 and closing significantly higher at ₹1950 after reaching an intraday high of ₹1970 and a low of ₹1900. This strong bullish performance reflected the prevailing optimism in the market.

However, in the next session, the stock opened slightly lower at ₹1930, signalling early hesitation among buyers. Despite some intraday fluctuations, the price failed to break the previous session's high and remained contained within its range. The stock reached an intraday high of ₹1945 and a low of ₹1920, eventually closing slightly lower at ₹1925, forming a smaller bearish candle entirely within the "real body" of the prior bullish candle.
This price action resulted in the formation of a Bearish Harami candlestick pattern. The pattern is characterized by the smaller bearish candle fitting entirely within the "real body" of the preceding bullish candle. It signifies a potential shift in the market sentiment. The second candle's subdued price action reflects a lack of follow-through buying pressure and the emergence of selling interest. This subtle but notable change suggests that the upward momentum may weaken, paving the way for a possible reversal to the downside.
For traders, the Bearish Harami is often considered an early signal of a potential trend reversal. It prompts them to watch closely for further confirmation of bearish momentum in the following sessions before taking action.
