Squaring off a position means closing out a futures position. For example: if you have futures buy position of 2 lots of  Axis Bank  expiring on 25th Nov 2010, squaring off this position would mean taking sell position in 2 lots of Axis Bank expiring on 25th Nov 2010 on or prior to 25th Nov 2010 and making your net position zero.
