As per Income Tax Laws, FMP investments offer investors the benefit of indexation which allows to inflate the cost of their investments by a government notified inflation factor (known as the cost inflation index).

The cost of investment thus inflated by this method reduces the capital gain (Redemption value - Investment Value) incurred on the MF investment, thus lowering the Capital Gain tax to be paid by the investor.
